Please join us for SUNDAY 'LIVE AT THE STORE' - ROCK N' ROLL WITH OUR NEIGHBOR TODD MACK DOUBLE BILLING WITH MY OLD FRIENDS FROM LA AND THE PIONEER VALLEY, THE STONE COYOTES.
This Sunday, September 3rd, will be our final show of the summer and it promises to be a stellar event. Big fun too! It's been a great summer of live music and these two acts will be a great way to wrap up our first live music series, not to mention putting an exclamation point on that thing we call summer. I expect it will be our rockin'est show of all.
You'll have the opportunity to enjoy TODD MACK and his steely-eyed take on the America experience complete with songs of love, loss, power & corruption, and of course, drinking. This may very well be Todd's final performance before departing Southfield for the greener pastures of Sheffield Mass. You owe it to yourself to be here to experience the guy from behind the Red Door up close and personal. Don't be the only one on the block who missed Todd's farewell to Southfield.
Since THE STONE COYOTES have not played in our neck of the woods I feel a little introduction is in order . . . I've known Doug Tibbles, the band's drummer, since we were growing up in LA. He's the only one I ever met who gave up a lucrative career writing for TV to learn rock and roll drumming as a supposedly mature man. But then, there is only one Barbara Keith, the amazingly talented young singer-songwriter he met, married and escaped LA with for life in the cosmopolitan Pioneer Valley metropolis of Greenfield. It was probably the only way he could keep her interested. Anyway, enough riffing on an old buddy, here's what the press has said about this band . . .
The Stone Coyotes are a family trio. But dont expect lace curtains, casseroles or Partridge Family kitsch. With songwriter Barbara Keith on electric guitar and vocals, husband Doug Tibbles on drums, and stepson John Tibbles on bass, this band rocks and they mean it.

Those wary of a hype short on substance should rest assured this family has the chops to back it up.
- The L. A. Weekly
Powerful and gritty, with just a hint of sweetness and sorrow.
- Real Detroit Weekly
Likely one of the festivals best discoveries
The Stone Coyotes rocked and shocked the Horseshoe audience Saturday night with their AC/DC meets Patsy Cline sound.
- Toronto Now
The show will get going a little after 4pm and, with a short break or two and some encouragement from you all that we know will be forthcoming, they'll continue until nearly 7pm . . . as you know seating is limited so if you're interested you might consider coming a little early . . . we're made it a practice not to charge a cover or drink minimum, but there will be a hefty tip jar with all the proceeds going to Todd and the Coyotes. We're sure everyone will show their appreciation with generous cash contributions filling the jar to overflowing.
Alone with the music, we're offering wine by the glass or bottle, domestic and imported beers, our own Southfield Sangria, mixed drinks and cocktails - like Mohitos and Margaritas - together with a selection of small plate dishes like delicious individual pizzas, a cheese plate, a cured meat plates and other tasty items. Come early and bring some friends, then eat, drink, be merry - and dig the music. Help us rock out the summer.

With the arrival of 4th of July Weekend, so did our new liquor license! The State of Massachusetts and the Town of New Marborough came through at last. Our thanks to everyone who helped. Appropriate Licenses and Occpancy notices are hung on the wall and we are now "good to go" for the service of wine, beer and spirits at the Southfield Store. Come on down to the Store and help us celebrate.
Not to put a damper on good news, but there are a few important (legal) details relating to liquor service at the Southfield Store worth noting. Think of this as the fine print no one ever wants to read but should. Just don't say we didn't tell you.
As always during good weather, we will be serving meals on our Patio. Unfortunately, our license DOES NOT permit liquor service on the Patio. We regret this inconvenience, but consumption of alcoholic beverages will be limited to our indoor Cafe. Please, please, help us with this regulation by not taking wine, beer or cocktails outside. Ever. There can be no exceptions. Our license depends on this regulation being consistently honored.
Also, we will be strictly enforcing the Masssachusetts 21 year-old age limit requirment by asking for valid ID from anyone we feel may remotely be under age. Here is what the Massachusetts
Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission says about valid ID: "To have a defense to the charge of delivering or selling alcoholic beverages to an underage person, a licensee [that's us] must reasonably rely on one of four types of identification:
1. Massachusetts driver's license.
2. Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles liquor identification card.
3. Passport issued by the United States or a country recognized by the United States.
4. Valid military identification card (interpreted by the ABCC to
be the green, active service card).
Identification must be checked on the day of service, even if the licensee has checked an individual's identification on previous occasions.
 | Summer is upon us and true to our California heritage we'll provide prime parking right out front for those who arrive in a "cool ride" - domestic or otherwise. Especially if it's a ragtop. Bring yours by, show it off and enjoy our hospitality. |
Well, at last Summer is here! You'll find us every weekday morning serving great coffee and espresso drinks made exclusively with Barrington Roasters coffees; tea and ice tea from Harney & Sons; our fresh-baked house-made Scones and Muffins, Egg Sandwiches and, a variety of other treats.
Wondering what else we have to offer? Come in any weekday for lunch to find out. Or consider sampling our Friday dinner with a full seasonal menu. We've got a weekend full of good eats too. Starting with our Saturday breakfast, served from when the doors open at 9:00am until nearly noon. On Summer Saturdays, our lunch is mainly about Barbecue. But if you're less carnivorously inclined, we've got a variety of great Entree Salads. Then on Sunday it's our sort-of-famous Sunday Brunch.
If it's food your after, we probably have something that will make you smile.
As a bonus for making the trip to Southfield, you can browse for something nice for the kitchen or table. Like those cool Reidel stemless crystal wine glasses or a gorgeous porcelain and pewter platter or serving bowl from Match of Italy. We carry an ecletic selection table accessories, china, cooks tools, linens and food products that make excellent gifts. Or might add that little something extra to you own place

How about a President's Day Weekend Brunch at the Southfield Store?
Not Enough? Taste Some Great Wines. Pay Nothing!
You might think of this congenial event as the excuse youve been looking for to discover where Southfield actually is and see what all the fuss is about. Then, theres the added bonus of a patriotically-justified sampling of some excellent wines you might like enough to buy and take home. Abe and George, the weekends honorees, probably wouldnt have cared much (though George was reputed to harbor a fondness for champagne), Tom (formerly of Monticello, that is) was big on viticulture and would doubtless be imbibing with us if such a thing were possible. So lets celebrate presidents and wine.
Together with Simeon and Chapin from Peterson Imports, well taste some terrific limited production wines that provide surprisingly exceptional values. A selection of
of fine cheeses and other toothsome accompaniments will round out our tasting.
We should probably reiterate that the tasting is free of charge and mention that a nice discount is available for wines purchased the day of the event. And if you feel like coming early, we serve a great Sunday Brunch from 10am to 2pm that isnt (free, that is).
 | Comfort Foood Headquarters, snow or no snow. |
Be sure to stop by the Southfield Store Saturday, October 21st, between 3PM and 5Pm and join us in tasting some excellent moderately priced wines that will compliment cold weather food and brighten up the holidays. We'll be serving cheese and appetizers along with the wine. Buy a bottle or a case or just try some samples. With the first frost of the season upon us and the coming of Halloween, our culinary interests shift gears. We've throttling back use of the outdoor grill and unlimbered our braising pans for a long stretch by the stove top and the oven. Sure, we'll endure the cold for an occasional piece of grilled meat. poultry or fish, but now our focus has turned to long cooked combinations of meats and aromatic vegetables - the kind grandmas around the world have prepared for many generations. Rich delicious stews and braises from Italy, France and closer to home. Check out our menus online or give us a call at 413-229-5050 Celebrate the end of Summer at the Southfield Store. Saturday, September 3rd, we're throwing a Pig Roast and Barbecue we think will put an exclamation point on the end of the Summer 2005 Season. Jerry Peele of Herondale Farm in Ancram, New York, is supplying us with another wonderful Certified Organic Heritage Breed Pig. We'll be slow-cooking it in our outdoor roaster with a delicious bread stuffing made with onions, celery, apples, peaches, nectarines, raisins, herbs and spices.
The BBQ will also feature our Pulled Pork Sandwich, delicious BBQ Chicken, a Grilled Turkey Sausage & Pepper Sandwich, Hot Dogs (for the kids, of course), Grilled Mixed Vegetables, classic American Cole Slaw and a tangy Ginger-Wasabi Slaw, Mesa Grill Potato Salad that adds a kick of the American Southwest to the idea. Sweet Corn and Watermelon? You bet. Oh, and plenty of cookies and fresh baked pies.
Were serving from about noon until 4:00 p.m. Share this bit of summer with us at the Southfield Store or take a bunch of barbecue and sides home for your own feast.

 | | Images from "Berkshire Farms," our current Gallery Show. Photography by Jason Huston. |
Sunday afternoon, June 26, we introduced a wonderful new group of photographs in our Gallery space entitled, "Berkshire Farms," by talented Great Barrington photographer Jason Huston. Jason's work reflects a deep commitment to local sustainable agriculture as well as clarity of vision that is unmistakable in the images we are fortunate to be showing. During the event, Ian Dick from Classic Wines poured a variety of wonderful summer wines, with emphasis on whites and rose's. The even begin at 3pm and extended well beyond the announced 5pm closing. It might be a stretch to say Southfield is becoming a Mecca for art, but definitely a good time was had by all at what might have been the first "art opening" in Southfield in a good long while.
Jason Huston's beautiful images will be hanging at the Southfield Store throughout the summer. Please come to see them. It will be well worth the drive from wherever you are.

If you were trying to start a new business in Southfield, Massachusetts, you'd be laughing too if the people you hoped were going to become your customers had no idea where the hell Southfield was. Wouldn't you? These six ads - that ran in 2004 and 2005 in our favorite local magazine, Berkshire Homestlye - may not be the solution, but they're trying to be. Read the first ad, "Where's Southfield?" And the second, "Espresso in Southfield?" The third, "Rustic Rules Southfield." And the fourth, "Barbecue Season." Number five, "Summer's Comin." And, finally, "Rose' Capital of Southfield," this summer's offering. Special Permit Issued to Store
